Boli 🥞
I am sorry for being late today. But I have a genuine reason for being late. My Daddy bought snacks today while he returned from work. He bought me "boli" to eat. "Boli" is a dish made mostly in centre and south India. This is made with Maida and for stuffing we add dal or jaggery and coconut mixture. There are variety of ways in making this and each of variety is famous in each state. In Tamilnadu they call it as "Obatu" and yes it is named differently in places. If you search in Google it would define this dish as "Traditional Indian sweet stuffed flatbread." It will be very tasty especially when you add ghee on the top and it would make us float.
I got introduced to this dish as it would be prepared often and mainly on "Rama Navami" that is celebrated as birthday of Lord Ram. On that day, main dish offered to lord Ram is vadai, this boli, buttermilk with curry leaves in it and jaggery water which we call it as "panakam." I would stand inside kitchen just to see how this boli is made. As to make it look in circle form they don't use the roti rollers or roti making machines, instead they make a perfect circle by pressing the dough manually. They use their hands to bring that shape. First, the dough is made with all purpose flour and stuff the jaggery mixture into the dough. Then by applying oil on the hands they place the dough on a piece of banana leaf and press it to make it in the circle form and then toast it using the tawa that is on the pan. It neither stick to the leaf nor on hands because the oil make it flowy and since it is placed on the banana leave, it too makes it very flowy and easy to take it out. Once placed on the pan, I will not forget to demand the for ghee boli so that they add extra ghee on the top of it. It is so flowy that even when you eat, it will be easy to chew.
Today I had this boli as soon as I finished my assignment which was, honestly, a last minute submission. After this hurry, I had the soothing boli which was not prepared at home but bought out. But yes, it too tasted good.
Note: Now I think as soon as my friend reads this would probably text me telling "soru soru soru, epa pathalum soru 😂." Meaning always only food. #i am a food lover.
