A new snack 😋

'Javvarisi' is called Sago in English. I am not so sure how they are actually made or extracted, etc or anything except the name and the taste . Mostly known in South India and they use this to make upma ( that has a nickname, the bachelors briyani) or payasam ( a sweet). At some houses they prepare a paste kind of thing and dry them under the sun so that it becomes like a papad that we call fryums. It is fried in the oil and that makes a perfect side dish for rasam rice. They make that mash at my home and that will be delicious actually. I finish bowls of it. My Granny is a specialist in making that. I don't think they sell the paste itself in shops but the dried ones are certainly available. You have to ask them as javvarisi vadam. Both fried in the oil and the unfried are available at shops. If you visit T Nagar in Chennai you can definitely get it. But at my home they don't buy it as I already said, my granny is specialist in preparing it.

At the shop they make it available colourful too. Mostly only natural food colours like betroot , carrot are used in that to bring the fryums in colours.

I talked about this because today in the evening I had this sago as puffed rice. They call it 'javvarisi pori' and that pori is puffed rice. They tasted very delicious and it actually can be eaten like how we have the puffed rice but what I did was I heated a little oil and added some turmeric powder to it and then added that javvarisi pori then some chilli powder and mixed it well and then had it. A new method of eating that and yes it was very tasty for me.

Mostly with this javvarisi they make payasam and that too has its unique taste.

It's said this javvarisi is good for gaining energy as it has carbohydrates in it and the presence of potassium in it will help for the heart health. And also helps to gain weight. However, it should be consumed at a moderate level. Anything too much is not that good anyway right.
