Ponniyin Selvan ⚔️🔥

I was talking about the scene in Ponniyin Selvan in yesterday's writing and today I got to see the movie on TV. And when I read yesterday's blog I got to see that around two passages I have written about a scene from this movie. Directed by one of my favourite directors, Mani Ratnam. I can actually keep speaking about his master pieces always.

Ponniyin Selvan is a historical fiction written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy on the setting of the Chola Dynasty, the powerful rule of the South. They were known for their war strategies, development of trade and war through sea routes, development in Architectures of temples and many more. They spread the shaivaite way following that is people who follow Lord Shiva. The Book is based on an internal conflict and using that they face war outside. Not a complete historical text but has some fictional characters involved in the story. The Book is actually of five parts and it was released in episodes in the Tamil magazine initially.

This book was attempted as a two part film that is like a summary version of the book. But still the film version had its own interpretation and changes from the book. The film was directed by Mani Ratnam and the first part was on screens in September, 2022. It received mixed reviews. The movie was appreciated for the photography and art direction where the attempt of bringing the exact setting was stunning. Music, as usual in mani sir's films, had its own role in the movie and it obviously outshined other factors of the film. Both songs and the background music were extraordinary. Every actor had their own way of representing the characters and I would say every one played their best. Costumes are one more thing which should be given equal recognition and yes it did receive its appreciation. The designer did justice from her part which adds to the appraisal of the movie. One other thing that caught my attention personally was the dialogues.

The film mostly received its negative reviews on the script part as every excellent work combined did not project a proper summary. I personally thought that it would have been a marking point if mani sir would have taken the story exactly like the book and did it in five parts. His initiative to comprise the concept had certain laggings.

Today i watched this film for the 51st time actually 😎😎.
