The Book Exhibition 📚📚
Lakhs of knowledge was at a place. Fiction, non fiction, autobiographies, biographies, drama and many more were arranged in each stall. There were around 600 - 900 stalls and every one of them was filled with books. Books of all kinds and for every age group, from kids to old age. I am talking about the Chennai book fair and I visited it yesterday. My eyes were glittering like how would it be when I see treasure in front of me. In the Film Ponniyin Selvan - 1, which is actually a historical fiction written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy and it was taken as a film by director Mani Ratnam, there is a scene where Vanthiyathevan ( done by actor Karthi) will meet Nandhini ( played by Aishwarya Rai ) and there the former has to escape from the place they meet, so he will get through a underground passage. Nandhini will help him to get through the passage and before the door closes, for seconds Vanthiyathevan will get mesmerized in the Beauty of nandhini, because she is known for her beauty. She will ask him 'Mayangi vitirgala' meaning 'have you fallen?' and he will reply 'Konjam' meaning 'a little'. I felt like I was in Vanthiyathevan's position and the books there were like asking me, the dialogue.
Nandhini is an antagonist in the film. And the entire scene will show the trickster nandhini and the context of the conversation is different. In the book ,Kalki would have equalised Nandhini to a snake because of her venomous attitude and thought process. I mentioned this scene not in the antagonism sense instead that attraction towards the place. I meant it in that way. And as soon as the door closes for Vanthiyathevan he would turn and have shock which actually brings him to reality. This is the context of the scene. I felt the same shock when I realised that there were 900 stalls and it is very difficult to visit all of them. I hope I am clear on what basis I am comparing my ideas to that scene. The scene is available on YouTube and if you watch it I think there may be a clear picture of it. And I am sure that when you see soo many books at one place you will too feel the same way.
I purchased a few books and one among them was the "Psychology of money" which I have to start reading. One more interesting thing in the fair was there was a stall where I saw books by writer Sathyapriyan, it's his pen name, and this was the recent writings of the author. I have his earlier writings too. Actually that author is a well known family friend of mine. We became friends from when I was in Salem. I was amazed to see writings of a person whom I know well. They were arranged on the shelf. And for a moment I thought what if one day mine too would be arranged like this. The daydreamer inside me came out for a moment.
Different perspectives, ideas, opinions, thoughts were penned down and displayed as books. Books are always a treasure. I even saw 'Conversation with Mani ratnam' , but it was comparatively lesser in cost on Amazon so my Dad said we will buy it online. I will somehow buy that book for sure.
A nice experience I had yesterday.
