The word of the day
Today I came across this word called 'senescence'. This word means the process of becoming old. That is the stage of old age life. As soon as I saw this word the first thing that came to my mind is the poem that is prescribed for me, that is Rabbi Ben Ezra by Robert Browning. Not yet gone through the full poem but the first stanza which was taught in class for me and the stanza begins about glorifying the old age stage.
When I asked chatgpt about the word (I wanted to consider its opinion too), it said to me that generally using this word will not be on a positive note because this word means the declining of age, vitals and the strength that is possessed.
It's true that when we become old we tend to lose the energy that we had as young. But the mental power of the old people never declines. You become wiser as you grow old right. Old age is actually a beautiful stage of life and that one can learn a lot of experience and knowledge from them. They may not be the most knowledgeable person but they have a lot of experiences in hand. That will help us a lot in a way. And simultaneously when I found this word I saw my grandmother trying to read a title of the book that was lying beside me. I found her attempting to spell each letter of the word and finally she successfully completed reading the title and it was actually right. When I had a stunning expression on my face I saw a happy and proud smile she had on her face. That child-likeness spoke a lot of words. The enthusiasm and energy that she had to accomplish her goal though it was a simple one. She didn't hesitate in pronouncing them slowly. That spirit was something very great that I saw in her. She didn't have an opportunity to study degrees because of her family background still that enjoyment she had to read correctly, recalled her learning methodology and finally achieved it. After this incident I actually started to search is there any synonym that would describe the old age positively. Through this experience I had an opportunity to learn a new word and also understood a technique on how to connect and learn things around us. Simply learning them doesn't have value right. We have to learn to research a lot.
I think that the spirit of researching things around and being a enthusiastic learner like my granny would always stay in me.
And of course Robert Browning was right. Old age is a very beautiful and important phase of life.
Good attempt. Keep going
