 Which is given attention first - music or the lyrics. We all like listening to songs. We have our own preferences of genres in music and we feel pleasant listening to them. In the same way after a long time I was listening to songs and that's when this question struck me. Which one do we concentrate on first? Is it the tune or the lyrics or for the voice of the singers or for any particular instrument notes in the song. Which actually takes the upper hand? I know this is an invalid question because if you ask me the same question I would probably reply like 'if you want a coffee you have to mix decotion, milk and sugar for it to taste like coffee'. Similarly for a song to have its essence you have to have all these factors. 

But still this came to my mind. As there are many who listen to certain songs because of the singer or the for lyrics or for the music director. I too do that. Maybe I should phrase it as which works for which! Like is it lyrics that decide the tune or the tune decides the lyrics? This is similar to the question: was it the egg to appear first or is it the hen? 

When I was first listening to a song today, first I got to take the tune inside and within no time my concentration shifted to lyrics as the tunes moves. Simultaneously I was checking for who the singer was. That made me replay the song too. And it always fascinates me on how the music directors make the words sit to the tune and at the same lyricists who write the lines in a simple and aphoristic method with metaphorical references too. And to these people the singer has to make sure that they prepare their ragas in order to replicate both the peoples' work. Music is a creative art form right! Hat's off to the music directors who try to bring all together according to their tune. 

Be it whatever, lyrics and music along with the brilliant musicians and singers make us feel the beauty of the song. I think in order to enjoy every aspect we tend to revisit our favourite music every time.
