Quiddity

 I have come up with a new word today - Quiddity. The denotative meaning of this word is the 'essential nature of a thing or Whatness of a thing'. Basically analysing the essence of a thing or concept. In simpler terms we could say a quiddity of a triangle is three sides, the quiddity of gold is its shiny quality. The essence of a thing is termed as quiddity. 

Today while eating my dinner, as usual I was watching a movie. The movie that I watched today is " Rise of the planet of the apes" where the story revolves around this ape called ceasar, an infant ape who inherits intelligence from its mother ape who was actually tested with an Alzheimer treating chemical that was worked on by the protagonist of the movie. 

The movie finally shows Ceasar along with other apes gain intelligence with the help of the same medicine, helps the other apes caged in the city for humans' entertaining and other purposes, release and move into the forest projecting their home in the forest and they have their identity. This movie, I was able to connect with this word quiddity. Basically the quiddity of animals are to be freely roaming around in nature and they have their own identity and equality in this world. Though Ceasar loved and cared for the protagonist, its quiddity is to stay along with its creatures and in the forest which is the safe place for them. 

And through this movie I also saw that moral humans' Quiddity is to be with rational awareness, conscience, social responsibility etc. The protagonist's character displays it. On the other hand, the movie also tried to project that the quiddity of man also be of desire where the antagonist's wish was to earn money, and the guard who caged apes along with Ceasar in the middle of the movie, is to take control and fear all the apes.  

The essential nature of an ape is to roam freely in the forest and survive along with other apes though it is induced with intelligence. And that's why it uses it's intelligence to reach the forest in the climax despite many chaos. 

The Quiddity of apes is to share its part to its own community. Similarly, in this movie soon after Ceasar plans to take the rule and move to the forest he provides that chemical through which Ceasar's mother was tested, to all other apes to make them too like Ceasar. 

The Whatness of a thing is defined as quiddity. 

A very surprising word that I got to see today and a brilliant movie understanding connecting this word.
