The 'CUP' mantra
The CUP mantra - concentrate, understand and practice. I feel nice that nowadays YouTube shows me nice things, that which I liked, cherished and now made me re-watch it. Yesterday I was bringing in the movie 'English Vinglish' and today it suggested this movie 'Kamali from nadukkaveri'. A very inspiring story which suits young minds. I watched this movie long back and today it again popped out for me.
To summarise this movie in short, it's about a young girl who is studying in 12th grade in a village. She lives with her family and initially does not have any plans about her future studies. Yet an active and a studious girl. Later, she gets attracted towards a boy who scores top marks in his 12th grade, who happens to be of her brother's batch, and is interviewed for his achievement through which he declares that he aspires to get into IIT. In order to win his heart, she too plans to prepare for IIT exams. That is when she meets a retired professor who agrees to train for the entrance exam. She works very hard and puts in sincere efforts gradually leading to getting concentration fully on her studies and eventually ends up getting good ranks in the entrance exams. And as her plan, joins IIT where that boy is already gaining prominence. Once she enters the college her concentration deviates towards him leading her to fail in all of her first semester exams and eventually gets humiliated in the classroom by her classmates revealing the reason for her being here which she shared only with her roommate, in front of the professor. Adding to this, the entire college comes to know her story and at a point the boy for whom she came here too teases her indirectly without knowing that it was him. This makes her even more sadder leading her to take a break from all this. At this point she gets to meet the mentor who taught her , who made her get interested in education, appreciating other students and making her as the role model to all of them. She realises how this man had hopes for her success and how sincere she was under his teachings. She decides to work for the person who respected her a lot, chase her dreams as first priority instead of the person who let her down for weakness. She begins to study hard like she did earlier and proves herself in front of all who humiliated her. The movie ends by showing her a win in quiz competition, representing and making her campus proud. Not only does she win the competition but also wins her fears, doubts and hesitations that stopped her initially.
A very nice and motivating movie which shows the importance of self - love, self-confidence, beauty of good friendship where the protagonist will have a loyal friend and family with loving brother who cherishes her success, the value of good people around us to be respected first, hardwork never fails and along with the importance of dreams.
There is one scene in the movie where the mentor of the protagonist, who is the backbone for her success, gives her this mantra CUP- concentrate, understand and practice. And this is actually a valuable method for us to work hard. If we have the concentration in whatever we are doing , we automatically will start loving the thing we are doing. We would wish to learn even more when our concentration gets intense. There are data saying that a human has attention span at minimal level. That is a general perception. But if we notice one thing, like when we are engaged in our most favourite job and understand them we make sure our eyes , mind and heart never moves out of that. For instance, like reading a book that has an interesting plot, and we understand it, our concentration never deviates. Like writing a blog, that makes me want to write even more better than yesterday. So understanding of things will increase our concentration and eagerness. And in order to have these both throughout in our work, we need to practice doing this. No matter how many times, it is important in how many ways we are practicing it. 'Day by day, in everyway I am getting better and better'.
He, in the movie puts it in this way - in order to taste your tea you need a cup and in order to taste your success you need this 'CUP'.
I liked this mantra.
