Beauty of discussion.

Image
( Created by AI )  Discussion is a nice and interesting activity that helps a lot and enhances our thinking too. Everyone will have different interpretations, ideas and opinions created on anything that comes to us. The perceptions may differ, the ideas may be innovative and intellectual too. When we sit and share the ideas it will be even more interesting where through those points we may get some more information.  It's actually a fun activity when we have a discussion among our friends. We may have tensions and debates between us but at the end of the day our bond will make it a healthy conversation. Discussion will be quite a natural one with whom we have a trusted and closer bond created. If you could see, we argue with our parents and it will be very difficult for us to do the same with others. It is possible for us to raise our doubts and questions only to a professor whom ...

Enjoying food with movies.

Movies are made even spicier along with the perfect snack combo or even lunch and dinner etc. I always like to watch a movie while I am eating. Be it already watched or a new one.  My dinner today was veg biryani. I will call it veg biryani 😎. After a tiresome day filled with laughter, sharing plans and an extraordinary time with friends I came home very hungry and tired which made me decide to prepare a little heavy dinner. So veg briyani came to our choice.  And my choice of movie today for dinner was 'Ezham arivu' a Tamil movie, a very nice commercial entertainer and actually a perfect selection at the moment. But unfortunately by the time I sat with my plate the movie was moving towards its climax. Still, I got the opportunity to see those scenes.  Every time when we plan to sit and watch a movie we will fill a bowl full of snacks like potato chips or popcorn or any other snacks available at home and interestingly watch the film. If you notice, In theatres we get som...

Nostalgic foods

There are certain sweets and chocolates that I had experienced when I was young. One among these is , Poppins about which I have already written on. Apart from this, there are a lot more that I got to have when I was young. Do you remember katcha mango chocolate, which I am not able to see frequently nowadays but i think it is still in the market like poppins. This chocolate would be packed in green colour rapper and the candy itself is in green colour. You get a juicy sweetness when you have it. It used to be like , two chocolates for one rupee which means a candy was 50 paise. Most of the small shops will have this in a plastic box placed in the front itself and we get it if the shopkeeper or we don't have change. I can never forget the taste of it because it always stays as a demand within me and my friends.                         (Image from google)  How many of you had this? This is popularly called 'tube ice'. ...

Fasting

I actually was thinking about writing this concept long back but missed it. And since this entire week I thought I would engage my blog with topics related to food and this topic will also stay as a related one.  Fasting is considered to be a sacred act, a control and also can be said as a way of communication with God. There are many ways that people follow like a whole day staying without drinking even a small drop of water, days that we avoid eating onions and garlic added food, months where some avoid non-vegetarian and many more. If we take the shivaratri, devotees mostly stay away from eating rice and mostly go with nuts and milk products.  This can be taken in two ways. One as self control from the external factors and another a way of communicating to God.  First, as a way of self control, fasting shows how conscious, steady and controlled we be in our life. This self-control and awareness around us is very important for us as that helps us focus in our life. If y...

Why do 'feel like home' is often used in describing food!!

Today , when I was reading my friend's blog, which filled my mouth with temptations, she was mentioning how every dish she enjoyed was feeling homely, comforting and satisfied. We all would have seen this dialogue commonly in movies saying nothing could be equalised to our home food. Not only in movies, if you go asking people who are away from their home what they miss the most, the first would be their home food.  The food that is prepared at home will not only fill our tummy but also fill our hearts. A simple sambar, rasam without any decorations and plattering will be placed in front of us. The menu may be simple but it is for sure filled with the love of the person who cooked for us. We only pay them back by giving an appreciation for their tiring work sometimes which may not be shared through words but definitely a bond with pure love would be shared between the both.  The pleasure that we get in eating along with our family after everything is done cooking , we all dine...

Food 🥣👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Food is the most beautiful art form and also a very essential element for our life. While cooking is an art, eating the food is also considered to be a type of talent. Like how every art form would need a disinterested criticism (which is stated by Mathew Arnold), a writer would need a reader, a cinema would need an audience similarly a chef will need a best food taster and a critic. They are not necessarily needed to be a foodie and be a person who eats a lot instead they can be a best taster and one who gives out a proper analysis of the food. In simpler terms, in this movie 'Ratatouille' , one of my favourites, has this crucial character named Anton Ego who is a food reviewer in the movie. And if you look at the scene where this man takes one bit of Ratatouille, it reminds him about his childhood and his mother. I mean to say that is how quick the taste buds of the taster works apart from normal eating.  Therefore, eating is also a beautiful art form. Being a taster, I wo...

The 'CUP' mantra

The CUP mantra - concentrate, understand and practice. I feel nice that nowadays YouTube shows me nice things, that which I liked, cherished and now made me re-watch it. Yesterday I was bringing in the movie 'English Vinglish' and today it suggested this movie 'Kamali from nadukkaveri'. A very inspiring story which suits young minds. I watched this movie long back and today it again popped out for me.  To summarise this movie in short, it's about a young girl who is studying in 12th grade in a village. She lives with her family and initially does not have any plans about her future studies. Yet an active and a studious girl. Later, she gets attracted towards a boy who scores top marks in his 12th grade, who happens to be of her brother's batch, and is interviewed for his achievement through which he declares that he aspires to get into IIT. In order to win his heart, she too plans to prepare for IIT exams. That is when she meets a retired professor who agrees to...

Learning a new language

Today I got to read the poem "An Introduction" by Kamala das. A very autobiographical and a nice poem to read. I have never been fond of poetry but there are few poems that I like. This poem was very simple which gave me a clear idea in the first go which is also one of the reasons for me to like those few poems.  And there is one line where she tells us that 'in whatever language I write that becomes mine, and a question to the poet asking why do you write in this particular language cannot be taken'. That's the way I initially understood and I posted my doubt to my friend asking what's wrong in asking a poet why they chose this language to write? And she replied that it's not in the general way meaning asking them as a question out of curiosity is different from using stereotypical, judgemental and dominative tone. And yes, to the core I agree with this tone point.  My writing today is about this concept called language. Knowing a language is actually a ...

Dare to differ

Taking a different path from others is not a fault. Being different from others is quite a challenging move. Because first we have to convince ourselves for what we are differing and then challenge others. It's not necessary to follow the same path like others. It should be our conscious choice to take a path which is suitable to us and which we think can work for us. It is actually a nice thing to think about a concept in various perspectives because there is no such thing called the right answer in abstract ideas.  Deciding to differ from others itself is a daring decision. We are welcoming a new idea, new thought process and also challenges in life. Challenges in life shapes us right. Anyway we are not going to decide blindly in order to be unique. We think, we research then decide at last and some decisions may also not emerge as victorious. But our step to think in various perspectives will help us to show the varieties, and among that deciding a conclusion will be even more p...

Quiddity

I have come up with a new word today - Quiddity. The denotative meaning of this word is the 'essential nature of a thing or Whatness of a thing'. Basically analysing the essence of a thing or concept. In simpler terms we could say a quiddity of a triangle is three sides, the quiddity of gold is its shiny quality. The essence of a thing is termed as quiddity.  Today while eating my dinner, as usual I was watching a movie. The movie that I watched today is " Rise of the planet of the apes" where the story revolves around this ape called ceasar, an infant ape who inherits intelligence from its mother ape who was actually tested with an Alzheimer treating chemical that was worked on by the protagonist of the movie.  The movie finally shows Ceasar along with other apes gain intelligence with the help of the same medicine, helps the other apes caged in the city for humans' entertaining and other purposes, release and move into the forest projecting their home in the fo...

Re-watching a movie🍿🎥

A movie which creates an impact that makes us watch it repeatedly. Some movies have this special element which will make us re-watch it and every time we watch it seems to be as a fresh content. The same emotion and same feel would be evoked within us when we watched it for the first time. I would have already mentioned this in my previous writings. Therefore, adding to those lists, the movie that I was watching today is one among , which invariably I watch would bring me the same amount of laughter and yes, the movie deserves this feeling.  "Micheal madana Kama Rajan" is the movie that I was watching today while eating dinner. It is a Tamil movie which was released around 1990, directed by Singeetham Srinivasan and the story is written by Kamal Hassan ,one of the renowned people in Indian cinema. He is a versatile actor and has also made his remarkable achievements in other fields of cinema like dancing, singing, direction ,music and etc. There needs to be a separate blog d...

A brave soul 🥺🥹

First I have to thank my friend Samitha for bringing this news to me today which I unfortunately missed before and fortunately got to know today because of her. The news that shook Kerala. The accident which took a small soul to Heaven.  It was around February 5, is what the media provides us the data, a family consisting, mother, father, a 10 month old girl baby and her grandparents were on travel by car. Tragically their vehicle collided with another vehicle leading to a major accident. The elders were out with minor injuries but the baby met with a severe one and she was admitted in a private hospital immediately. Later,  itseems she was shifted to another hospital and there doctors have declared brain dead. Amidst their loss of their lovely daughter, the parents decided to donate their child's organs. Her kidneys, liver, heart valve and corneas were donated which gave life to 5 other people. This child has made the lives of those people colourful. Not only to those people ...

Lunch with friends 🍱

Having lunch together with friends is one thing which is to be cherished and I have already mentioned this in one of my other writings. Outings with friends and having lunch is one way of enjoying whereas having home lunch in the classroom is another way of celebrating the bond.  Small tiffen boxes with colourful and tasty food cooked and packed for us at home but actually not meant for us alone. The happiness that we get in sharing food among our friends is a beautiful moment to be experienced.  We will have only one spoon for one tiffen box and we never take each spoon for us instead if we want to taste a food from a box we all use the same spoon meant for that box.  Laughter, happiness and love will be shared along with food. Not very decorative but only tamarind rice and tomato rice will be in the box but that looks grandeur for all of us. A fifteen minute break will not be enough for us to finish that small box even though we share.  Have you ever enjoyed the mo...

Maha Shivaratri 🔱🙇

Image
(Image from google)  This is a day wholly dedicated to Lord Shiva, the supreme deity in Hindu mythology. This day is also called 'The great night of Shiva'. While festivals like Diwali, Holi, pongal are celebrated with a story behind it, this day is believed to be celebrated as a mark of the marriage between Lord Shiva and Parvati. Mostly this day comes between February and March where the temples of Lord Shiva will be crowded with devotees and the idols of Shiva and Parvati are worshipped with ritual anointing meaning sacred bathing of the idols. Devotees on this day will be fasting by avoiding rice and go only for nuts, milk and wheat products.  'Rudram' hymns written on Lord Shiva and is a part of yajurveda, one of the four vedas, chanted on this day in order of praying and praising him. Lord Shiva is also called as Rudra, the one who evades the evils and sorrows.  In most of the...

Peaceful and healthy sleep 😴😴

How many of you like to take naps? I mean sleeping is a daily habit like brushing our teeth. When it is night time and the moon comes out shining bright and rules the sky, we tend to leave a break to all our works and rest our heads on the pillow and start to enter our dreams. I like to sleep and also take naps a lot. I mean apart from our night sleeps, anytime when I don't have anything to do, I would simply like to rest for a while.  It is said that it is necessary for all of us to take night sleep for 6 to 7hrs a day for a relaxed and active mind. At that time our mind will try to restore energy, making itself available for the next whole day to work along with us. It tries to maintain balance and function healthily. Sleep is very important for us to focus, stay healthy and have cognitive clarity. Less than six hours of sleep makes us be poor in concentration and that same more than 9hrs of sleep makes us fatigue and lazy. Too much and too little are always not good. We need to ...

When consistency rewards us

We all would have this phrase "early bird catches a worm". And that 'early' doesn't come suddenly. You need to have practice for that 'early'. For a simple example, if we wake up at 6am today, try to follow up the alarm and make it happen on a daily basis then waking at 6am will become our habit. And when we get early we make things happen early and will have time to rectify any mistakes. This makes us be disciplined and also provides space to identify the betterment too.  So consistency makes this 'early' possible. When we practice something very sincerely and constantly we for sure would receive a reward at the end of the day. In many ways we would see our consistency gaining its reward. It could be a progression in idea, a gift from our revered mentor, cheer from our best friends, development in language and provide self confidence etc. In simple understanding, if we have to build muscles we have to work out daily.  When we work on a daily bas...

My First spin a yarn competition 😁😁

Today I got to participate in a competition named spin a yarn. Basically this game is all about building a story with the single line provided and how fluent and how thoughtful we make the story is the ultimate goal of the game.  I have played this as a game in my school under a different title and never thought that this exists as a competition.  For a clearer idea we could say something like we do in creative writing ( section B) in our English papers where we have a question asking us to develop a story from one given line. That writing part when we narrate , it becomes this game's method to play.  I have never played this for competition and today is my first try. I along with my friend went to try our level. And yes we did try our best.  It was a two level competition and I couldn't make it to the second level. I lost in the first round. But still this was a very nice experience for both of us and I am sure even my friend would agree with this. Winning or losin...

🤔🤔

Which is given attention first - music or the lyrics. We all like listening to songs. We have our own preferences of genres in music and we feel pleasant listening to them. In the same way after a long time I was listening to songs and that's when this question struck me. Which one do we concentrate on first? Is it the tune or the lyrics or for the voice of the singers or for any particular instrument notes in the song. Which actually takes the upper hand? I know this is an invalid question because if you ask me the same question I would probably reply like 'if you want a coffee you have to mix decotion, milk and sugar for it to taste like coffee'. Similarly for a song to have its essence you have to have all these factors.  But still this came to my mind. As there are many who listen to certain songs because of the singer or the for lyrics or for the music director. I too do that. Maybe I should phrase it as which works for which! Like is it lyrics that decide the tune or...

My Guru 🥹👨‍🏫

When you are a great learner you become a great teacher. Every teacher first should always come forward to learn things from students, listen to their needs and teach them what is necessary.  Today's discussion made me say these lines. Myself and my friend had to meet Dr. Rufus sir, my professor for our chapter preparation. I have to thank him so much that he spent time correcting our mistakes despite his busy schedule and not only correcting but also teaching us how we make sure that we don't repeat them. Before we went inside his cabin it was very calm and composed. Probably the fan's sound was audible. But once we went inside, the room was filled with enthusiasm and laughter.  Such a valuable time we had with sir which I would always cherish in my lifetime. Getting appreciation from him today was like an oscar award for us.  He never fails to motivate us in every way possible. He attempts his best to provide ample opportunities to us which helps us to design our ...

The word of the day.

Resilience - This is the word of the day. The exact definition of this word that Google suggests to me is 'the ability to return or recover from difficulties or toughness'. An interesting word that I got to see today because whatever may come, at the end of the day we have to sit for minutes and think for ourselves and decide on for tomorrow. There is no point in sitting and worrying about the things that have already occurred. It is our responsibility to try to solve the toughness and for that we have to be resilient.  It is actually necessary for some sorrows and some fights to be worried about as it may have the weightage to be given importance. It is fine to sit, think and worry about the issue, cry over it and let go of our emotions by spending time on it but we should know when to stop them. Worrying over things can help to let our emotions out without disturbing our mind but the come back to our normality is where lies our real strength. We are the ones who could solve...

Palak paneer 🥬🥬

Chappati with palak paneer is an awesome combination. After a long time I think I am having paneer. Paneer is always one of my favourites. Today, being Sunday, I thought of having something delicious for dinner because my lunch was not with a great menu. Therefore, dinner was my option and that's when I came to a conclusion for preparing palak paneer because I saw palak in the fridge. So after a long time, I bought paneer and I cut it into small cubes. It was very gentle, smooth and my knife went very coolly between the slices. It was very soft where it actually made me melt while cutting it. I tried not to cut it very small because if we fry it then, chances are there for it to get mixed up so I carefully cut it in cubes and fried them in ghee. I sauteed it and made sure it doesn't get stuck up. I could see the white, soft sponge, cut into pieces sizzling in ghee gradually turn into golden brown on the sides.  My Granny prepared the palak gravy, and this time she made it loo...

Debate

An opinion or thoughts that are conveyed as an argument. I am not very sure about this definition but in my understanding, debate is a medium of communication where we prove our stand in argumentative style. This word, we would have heard commonly in both schools and colleges, where they will be debate competitions conducted and that who speaks up boldly, with valid points and substantive evidence for the point is awarded. It is of  the speaker's opinion but to prove our ideas we utilize data. It's actually an interesting activity and a learning methodology.  Plato argues debate as a foolish art form where arguing for victory will not reveal a truth. He wanted a dialectical option where you arrange a debate into structure like how mentioned earlier. Mere debate for victory is something dangerous and considered to be stupid according to him.  In one sense it's actually a valid point. We should argue for truth and with proper evidence like how advocates in the court sessio...

Window seat 🧳🧳

It's actually a fortune thing to get a window seat in the side birth of a train. Not only on the train, I would say it's actually a very nice thing to have a window seat while traveling. You get to see beautiful scenery outside and everything will look as if they are sprinting backwards like how Kamala das states in her poem "My mother at sixty six". Gazing outside the window with beautiful music is the best experience while traveling and one thing which we should not miss while traveling. When it's the window seat of a train you get to see the best green scene outside. Depending on which place we are traveling, but anywhere the place's beauty we can witness through the windows. A heavy breeze rushes to your face making your hair dance in the wind which will actually be pleasant. You get to experience the smell of nature at these sights. Today I had the smell of the jackfruit as well as the train while moving on the track, you get to experience a smell. And th...

The word of the day

This word we most of us would have come across at least once. Either we would have earned that or we would have told someone else. I certainly would say that I have earned this word many times in my life. The word 'Adamant'. This means being very strong in one's own point and refuse to change the mindset. Being firm in the stand and unwilling to change. Mostly this word is used to describe the stubbornness of a person. But it's actually a neutral term.  If you ask me I would say being adamant in certain things are very necessary and would help us to grow. This adamant is not an attitude but its a reflection of being strong. The adamant mind set in ourself will actually make us learn and work hard because in order to prove ourselves we would be aware of what we are adamant of. That firm decision making would develop when being adamant and also pushes us to become a very hardworking to achieve the goals. I am supporting that adamancy. We first decide on things with littl...
